NRHEG golf boys pull off upset at River View

NEW RICHLAND - The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys' golf team was not listed among the preseason favorites in the Gopher Conference but, it's midseason now, and the Panthers sure look like contenders.
The NRHEG boys improved to 6-1 Monday with a victory over Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, which was expected to challenge United South Central for the conference title. The Panthers had 171 strokes to the Bulldogs' 173 at River View Golf Course.
"It was a nice win for us," said NRHEG coach Xan Johnson.
Jess Recknor led the Panthers and was the medalist with a 39, followed by Andy Braaten with 42, Bryan Kormann 44, Matt Harrington 46, Derek Chicos 48 and Justin Beatty 50.
"Recknor came up big, and Braaten continued to play well," said Johnson.
So did the B-squad, which improved to 5-0 with a 178-219 victory. NRHEG scores: Dan Gullickson 42, Art Mills 43, Derek Kruckeberg 45 and Dustin Hagen 46.
The Panthers finished fourth in the Blooming Prairie Invitational Saturday with 353 strokes. Blooming Prairie won with 326.
Beatty paced the Panthers with an 18-hole 88. Recknor shot 89, Harrington 90, Chicos 91 and Kormann 92.
