Alden-Conger volleyball team wins five-game season opener

ALDEN - The Alden-Conger volleyball team defeated Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther 3-2 in its season opener Thursday. The Knights won 25-15, 24-26, 25-20, 21-25, 15-10.

Heather Haukoos was 23-for-24 serving with three aces, Mandy Kruger 18-for-20 with two aces and Kenzie Johnson 12-for-13 as the Knights had a strong night at the line. Tana Reindal and Kendra Mathiason were the passing leaders.

"It's nice to get a win," said coach Jon Jahnke. "The girls did a good job passing the ball and picking it up, and our serving was good."

The Knights open Gopher Conference play Tuesday when they face Maple River at Alden.
