BLAINE - The competition was tough and so was the situation for the Albert Lea High School girls' hockey team.

The Tigers overcame both.

The ALHS girls rallied from a 4-2 deficit after two periods and defeated Irondale 5-4 in overtime for third place in their division in the Schwan's Cup Tournament at Blaine Monday night.

"It was a good win tonight," said Tigers coach Jason Fornwald. "The girls showed a lot of heart and battled back in the third period. Being down two goals, they showed a lot of determination to come back and take it into overtime."

The Tigers improved their record to 8-3-1.

Laura Hillman had her best game of the season for the Tigers, netting three goals for a hat trick while adding an assist.

"Laura played a real good game tonight," said Fornwald.

Tessa Christensen and Karissa Lau scored Albert Lea's other goals.

Amy Leach collected three assists, Christensen and Brittany Arendt two apiece.

Erin Schlaurbaum was in goal as Albert Lea was outshot 22-13.

The Tigers are off until Saturday, when they travel to Waseca for a 7:30 p.m. nonconference game.
