The memorial service for Peter Allen Hughes, of Albert Lea, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian Oestreich and The Rev. Robert Schneider will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore's Cemetery. Flag Presentation by Albert Lea Veteran's Organizations. Friends may visit with family one our before the service at the church.

Peter died on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 55.

He was born on Oct. 9, 1948, in Litchfield, Minn., the son of Jeremiah Thomas and Mary Florence (Carroll) Hughes. He graduated from Litchfield High School and attended Willmar Junior College.

Peter was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

When he returned from the service he was united in marriage to Darlene Hess on June 26,1971, in Litchfield. Following their marriage they lived in Coon Rapids, and made their home in Albert Lea in 1976. He worked in sales throughout his life.

He was a member of St. Theodore's Catholic Church.

Peter was an avid Twins and Vikings fan. He enjoyed watching T.V. especially Andy Griffith, Matlock, and Perry Mason. His hobbies also included rummage sales, garage sales, and flea markets.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Albert Lea; son, Tony Hughes and his wife Kathie and their children, Cassidy, Grace and Cecily, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; daughter, Bridget and her husband Kelly Ellingson and their son, Kaden, of Glenville; brother, Tom Hughes and his wife Barb of Eddyville, Ky.; stepsisters: Jeraldine and her husband Herb Johnson of Darwin, Minn., Phyllis and her husband Lyle Pollock of St. Michael, Minn., Kathleen Housman of Fridley, Minn., and Barbara and her husband John Chmelik of Faribault; stepbrother, Bud Housman and his wife Joyce of Litchfield; mother-in-law, Romel Lembke of Litchfield and her special friend Jean Yob; sister-in-law: Jan and her husband Ron Solomonson of Watertown, Minn., brother-in-law, Ron Hess and his wife Mary of Gillette, Wyo.; sister-in-law, Sharon Hess of Dassel, Minn., and special friend Dan Galloway; brother-in-law, Roger Hess of Cleveland, Minn.; sister-in-law, Donna and her husband Dave Rikess of Eagan, Minn.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, John Housman; stepsister, Donna Housman; father-in-law, Albert Hess; and stepfather-in-law, Richard Lembke.
