ROCHESTER - The Albert Lea High School boys' hockey team let up for a little while.

But not for long.

After bolting to a 5-1 first-period lead, the Tigers gave up a pair of goals to New Prague before turning it on again and rolling to a 10-4 victory Tuesday in Rochester's Kiwanis Tournament.

The Tigers improved their record to 11-1 while advancing to the semifinals against Princeton at 4:45 today at the Rochester Recreation Center.

Tuesday's game was all Albert Lea except for the opening minutes of the second period when the Trojans pulled within 5-3.

"We kind of fell asleep a little bit there, but we turned it on pretty good after that," said ALHS coach Roy Nystrom. "We came back strong. We're happy to be in the semifinals."

Corey Ellertson got the scoring started with the first of his three goals, on a power play. Beau Larson assisted.

Ellertson and Quinn Ellingson both scored twice in the first period, with Peter Bracker getting the other Albert Lea goal. Dustin Trail, Bracker, Jon Breuer and Tony Dugstad added assists.

In the second period, the Tigers got a pair of goals from Breuer and one by Ellertson with assists going to Ellingson, Dugstad and Travis McKinney.

Breuer added a pair of goals in the third to finish with four. Ellingson and McKinney each added an assist.

Clay Casanova was again in goal for the Tigers, who outshot the Trojans 48-15.

Defensively, Nystrom praised the play of Trail, McKinney, Ellertson and Mark Walton.

New Prague's record fell to 6-4.
