Take a bow: Fountains required great many volunteers

Published Saturday, May 29, 2004

In the course of a week, The Tribune publishes stories about people who went out of their way to help another person, excelled in a specific endeavor, or accomplished something which will make the community of Albert Lea a bit better than it was the day before. Though the list is not all inclusive, it will hopefully remind you of others who also deserve to take a bow.

It's easy to forget those who deserve some recognition as we grapple with the more serious matters of the community. We'd like to take a moment to highlight those good deeds and ask the following people to take a bow:

-

Have you noticed the new fountains? Thank the many volunteers who made the fountains a reality in Fountain Lake.

-

The American Legion Auxiliary for their work with poppies which they sell to remind us of the important sacrifices made by fallen troops.

-

The Albert Lea High School Seniors, Katie Stenseth and Sam Cook, along with the many volunteers who organized and worked the blood drive held last week at the school.

-

Eleanor Wolfe, not so much for what she may have done to get to her 99th birthday. But rather that she continues to be so active.

-

Changes made by the Albert Lea City Council to ensure residents have the opportunity to express their opinions.

-

Nursing scholarship recipients, Kristen Weber, Andrea Perkins, Jill Frederick and Grant Brekken. The profession of nursing has changed so much in the past few years, and as healthcare continues to evolve so will nurses and these students will be charged with adapting to those changes.
