MANKATO - After winning its first game of the season last weekend, the Albert Lea High School softball team was hoping to carry some momentum into Big Nine play.
It didn't happen.
The Tigers were rained out Tuesday and, on Thursday, they lost both ends of a doubleheader at Mankato West, 12-0 and 10-0.
"We were flat," said coach Rick Harves. "We made some mistakes that we should not have made and we were not aggressive enough."
The Tigers had three hits in the first game, a double by Kelly Royce and singles by Jerri Mondeel and Shelby Vietze. Stacie Thisius pitched all four innings, registering three walks and one strikeout.
Mondeel and Royce both doubled in game two. Mondeel started on the mound and took the pitching
loss.
The Tigers won their opener in Saturday's Panther Invitational at New Richland 8-5 over JWP.
They then fell 10-0 in five innings to Bethany Academy and were nipped 8-6 by St. Clair.
The highlight for the Tigers was against St. Clair as Marissa Cottrell, called up from the junior varsity team, went 4-for-4 with a triple.
"It was long, cold day but it was a good tournament for us," said Harves. "We played some people in different positions and we had a good time."
The Tigers are 1-9 overall and 0-7 in the Big Nine. They face Owatonna in their long-awaited home opener Tuesday.
