Published Thursday, July 28, 2005
FARIBAULT - The Albert Lea Colonels used a team effort to down Faribault, 4-3, Wednesday night.
The Colonels grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth as Matt Trygstad got things started with an one out single followed by a Ryan Wangen walk to put a pair of runners on.
Zac Oquist would plate Trygstad with an RBI single before Wangen scored on a wild pitch.
The Lakers would tie the score in the bottom of the fifth and take the lead with another run in the sixth.
However, Ryan Truesdell started the Colonel rally in the seventh with a double and Levi Hendrickson got on with a walk.
Truesdell would steal third and come home on a double steal attempt when Faribault tried to get the runner at second.
The winning run scored in the eighth inning when pinch hitter Mike Minehart had an RBI groundout to bring home Derrick Bauer.
Bauer and Trygstad were the only Colonels with more than one hit on the night as both went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Albert Lea which had not played since last Thursday used four different pitchers in the game.
Derek Anderson got the win, but Jeff Schulz came into a bases loaded no out situation in the eighth and proceeded to get out of the jam with a double play ball and a groundout to preserve the Colonel lead and the victory.
"There was a little luck involved there, but we were due to have some," said Albert Lea head coach Bill Trygstad.
The Colonels are still trying to schedule a make-up game with New Richland for Sunday before beginning playoff action Tuesday in Austin against the Blue Sox.
