Panther girls third at Mankato

MANKATO - The quality remains for the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls' track and field team.
It's quantity that concerns co-coaches Mike Weber and Duey Ferber.
The Panthers, regular contenders for the Gopher Conference championship in recent years, are down in numbers this year and it showed in the season opener as they took third in the conference indoor meet at Minnesota State-Mankato Monday.
United South Central/Alden-Conger won with 133 points, with WEM second at 101. The Panthers had 91 points. Seven teams competed.
"We were very pleased with a third-place finish," said Weber. "We're looking forward to the outdoor season to start."
Alison Anderson paced the Panthers, winning the 55-meter dash, the 200 and the long jump.
The Panthers' other first was by Ashley Misgen in the 55 high hurdles. She was second in the 55 low hurdles Bryanna Anthony, Anderson, Megan Groskreutz and Hilary Johnson teamed for second in the 4x200 relay. Groskreutz was second in the pole vault.
Other NRHEG places: Heather Schmit, third, 200; sprint medley relay, third (Anthony, Johnson, Samantha Davis, Jessica Brouwers); Brouwers, fourth, 800; Krystle Lonning, fourth, shot put; Misgen, fourth, high jump; Kyree Wobbrock, fifth, shot put; Jill Drube, sixth, 3200.
The Panthers' next meet is Monday at Maple River.
