B Peewee hockey team off to good start

ALBERT LEA - The Albert Lea B Peewee team got its season started by hosting a tournament and finishing third.

Using aggressive play by the forwards and physical defense it won two of three games and just missed the championship game by one goal.

In its first game Albert Lea played a very fast Farmington team.

Griffin Wangen was in the net and made 26 saves to keep the team in the game.

Farmington scored first in the second period and again early in the third period, but

Albert Lea got on the board with a unassisted goal by Taylor Matz in the third period.

Albert Lea played Crow River in their second game winning 3-2.

Jordan Fitzlaff was in the goal and stopped 17 of Crow River's 19 shots making some nice game saving stops.

Crow River scored first in the second period and followed two minutes later with another goal to put them up 2-0.

Late in the second Tyler Osmundson made a nice breakaway to put Albert Lea on the board.

Albert Lea's second goal came midway in the third period with a tally by Thomas Furland and a assist to Ray Stephanson making the score 2-2.

Matz put the game winner in with a dramatic backhand shot late in the third period. The win put Albert Lea into the third place game against Faribault.

In a very close up and down game Albert Lea struck first with a unassisted goal by Furland.

Faribault answered right back with a goal, and then late in the first period Ben Enger scored with a assist to Stephenson.

The second period had Faribault score to tie the game up, but Osmundson answered with a unassisted goal to put AL back on top.

In the third, Faribault scored again to tie it up.

Osmundson scored late in the third to put Albert Lea up for good with a 4-3 win to take third place.

Blaine

won the tournament by dominating every team they played and beating Farmington in the

championship matchup.

The B Peewee next home game is against Dodge County tonight at 6 p.m. at the City Arena.
