Tigers' season comes to an end

ROCHESTER - The Albert Lea baseball team couldn't come up with the timely hits it needed against Red Wing and saw its season end with a 10-6 loss.
The Tigers were dealt their second section loss at Hudson Field in Rochester despite taking an early 3-0 lead after one inning of play. Nick Hagen had the big hit in the inning to drive in a run and get Albert Lea off to the strong start.
Red Wing scored twice in the top of the second, but the Tigers responded with another run when Arik Matson delivered one of his two hits on the day to plate the runner.
From there the Tigers went cold at the plate being set down in order in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
“We just struggled a little bit with our hitting and getting timely hits, “ said Albert Lea head coach Joe Sczublewski.
Albert Lea finished the game with six hits coming from five different players. Hagen, Nick Bunz, Matt Schumann, D.J. Kjos and two knocks for Matson.
Hagen pitched the first three innings giving up five runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out a pair. Taylor Ignaszewski and Bunz combined to finish the game, but Red Wing was able to put up five runs in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the victory.
Bunz did have the other RBI in the game with his coming in the seventh.
The Albert Lea defense did play error free ball, but 13 hits by Red Wing was too much to offset.
The Tigers concluded their season with a 9-13 mark overall.
