USC/AC runs well at Kingsland Invite

Published Thursday, September 28, 2006

The USC/AC boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the Kingsland Invitational last week with good results.

Kingsland is the school name for the consolidated

school districts of the communities

of Spring Valley and Wykoff

in southeastern Minnesota.

The Rebels won the boys’ competition with 33 points. La Crescent was second with 59 points.

Seven teams were represented in the competition.

Leading the way for USC/AC with a 2-3 finish and identical times were Bryan Hauge and Jacob Elmer.

Jordan Haroldson (6th) and

Shane Bias (9th) also finished in the medals.

Pete Trio (13th) ran his best race of the season to round out the scoring for the Rebels.

“Our focus all season has been to run as a pack, and we made big progress in that respect,” USC/AC head coach Kent Viesselman said. “The time differential between our first and fifth runners was just 53 seconds at Kingsland. That’s by far our best of the season.”

The boys have a season record of 75-13 for a winning percentage of 85.2 percent.

The girls also ran well, finishing third as a team just four points out of second.

Amber Erickson (8th) and Andree Escherich (12th) led the way with Joelle Elmer (16th), Shelby Little (22nd) and Nicole Klein (23rd) close behind.

“Our range for the girls was also very good at 59 seconds,” Viesselman said, “Our girls are continuing to get a little better

every meet. Five of the nine girls who ran in the varsity race had their best times of the season.”

At this point, the girls record is

60-35 losses for a winning percentage of 63.2

percent.

Another bright spot for the locals came when the boys junior varsity team won its competition with an impressive

28-33 victory over runner-up La Crescent.

Jonathan Leland was the top Rebel runner in that

competition.

This week will be a busy week for the runners.

“We’ll be taking six girls and six boys to compete in the Swain Invitational in Duluth this Saturday.

Those not making the Duluth trip will be competing at Waseca tonight, “ Viesselman said.
