Serve receive costs Wolverines against Lanesboro

Published Friday, September 29, 2006

GLENVILLE - The Glenville-Emmons volleyball team battled a tough Lanesboro team for two sets, but its own miscues cost them in the end as the Wolverines fell under .500 on the season losing 23-25, 20-25, 14-25.

The Wolverines were right in the thick of the opening game with the score knotted at 17, but six straight points off of serve from Lanesboro was too much for G-E to overcome.

“Our serve receive really killed us tonight,” Glenville-Emmons head coach Lisa Ziebell said. “As a team we finished 29 of 51 in the match. It would be nice to put together a complete game on a night when you really needed it.”

The Wolverines hung tough in the second game but never got things going in the final game.

G-E was strong at the net getting 15 kills apiece from Ashley Lau and Jordyn VanRyswyk and the two combined for 12 tip blocks as well.

However, the back row struggles continued to haunt the team all night long.

The loss dropped the Wolverines to 7-8 on the season and 4-5 in the Southeast Conference while Lanesboro improved to 9-1 in conference action and 17-4 overall trailing just Mabel-Canton in the standings.
