USC reels off third straight dual win

WELLS — The United South Central girls’ tennis team made quick work of Fairmont winning all seven matches to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Andrea Allis won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 followed by Carolyn Schmitz at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Jordan Anderson came out on top at No. 3 6-2, 6-3 and Taylor Allis blanked her opponent at No. 4 singles.
The Rebels’ top doubles team of Jessica Stensrud and Molly Yokiel were convincing winners 6-0, 6-0. Emma Stenzel and Kellie Robbins were 6-0, 6-1 winners, while Amanda Huper and Haleigh Korn completed the sweep 6-4, 6-1.
The Rebels are off until next Saturday.
Roch. Mayo 7, Albert Lea 0
A powerful Rochester Mayo girls’ tennis team downed Albert Lea 7-0 Thursday in Albert Lea.
Dezeray Jacobs lost 0-6, 0-6 at No. 1 singles, Taylor Nelson was downed 0-6, 1-6, Jasmine Gavle fell 0-6, 0-6 and Michelle Hartmann was downed 3-6, 3-6.
In doubles action, Niki Hendrickson and Kelli Hanson lost at No. 1 1-6, 1-6. Sarah Wenum and Alarie Maras lost 1-6, 2-6 and Kellsie Dieser and Mikaela Pierson were beaten 2-6, 2-6.
“They are the best and it is good to start with them and continue to improve as the season goes on,” Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam.
