Hockey teams put up sticks in tourney wins

ROCHESTER — The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team dominated its opponent in the first round of the Rochester Kiwanis Tournament Thursday night when it downed Princeton 11-1.

The Tigers set the tone for this game right from the opening face-off when Chris Dokken scored 37 seconds into the first period. Dokken would score later in the period for a 2-0 A.L. advantage after one period.

In the second it was Casey Woodside’s turn to do the scoring as he put two in the net along with a Grant Stadheim goal for an almost insurmountable 5-1 lead heading to the final period. Woodside led the Tigers with three goals for the hattrick and had one assist while Jared Bowman scored twice and collected four assists.

The Tigers poured it on in the final period with six more goals and will advance to play Duluth Denfeld in the semi finals today at 4:45 p.m.

Girls post 11-0 shutout

AUSTIN — The Albert Lea girls’ hockey team scored an 11-0 win against Huron, S.D. in the opening round of the Weyerhaeuser-Austin Merchant Holiday Hockey Tournament on Thursday.

The Tigers play Mankato West today at 4:30 p.m.
