Tiger hockey teams play for championships

ROCHESTER — Albert Lea picked up an upset in boys’ hockey on Friday, defeating the No. 9 team in Class A, Duluth Denfeld, 3-2.
The Tigers improved to 8-2 on the season and played in the Kiwanis Hockey Festival championship Saturday.
Jordan Preschar opened the scoring with a goal on an assist from Grant Stadheim 1:15 into the game. Denfeld responded three minutes later, sneaking a shot past Tigers’ goalie Tyler Distad, who stopped 31 out of the 33 shots he faced.
Chris Dokken made it 2-1 in the second period on assists from Stadheim and Preschar. After Denfeld tied the game with 3:59 left in the game, Albert Lea’s Jared Bowman delivered the fatal blow with 2:57 left. Casey Woodside and Jared Hughes assisted.
