Published Friday, September 28, 2007
The Albert Lea girls’ swim team beat an undermanned Waseca squad 83-74 Thursday afternoon in Albert Lea. The Tigers had many of their swimmers compete in exhibitions otherwise the score might have been more lopsided.
In the 200 medley relay the team of Amanda Walters, Morgan Field, Amy Horejsi and Korbin Wayne took first with a time of 2:08.64, just six seconds ahead of the Tiger’s second place team of Ali Schmitz, Gracie Thomas, Kim Nelson and Alaina Schulz at 2:12.57.
A.L. had the top three finishers in the 200 freestyle with Galen Schulz placing first with a time of 2:19.08, in second was Emily Klick at 2:24.30 and third went to Jasmine Hanson at 2:25.70.
In the 200 individual medley Thomas and Schmitz finished in the top two spots with times of 2:43.02 and 2:50.13, respectively. Walters cruised past the competition in the 50 freestyle with a 26.62 for first place.
Alaina Schulz touched the wall in the 100 butterfly at 1:12.81, good for first place while Jackie Elwood took first in the 100 freestyle with a time of .59.54.
Other first place finishers for the Tigers were Walters in the 500 freestyle at 6:01.07, Schmitz in the 100 backstroke at 1:14.85, Bria Schrieber in the 100 breaststroke at 1:17.73 and the 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Mallory Carstens, Thomas, Wayne, and Elwood with a time of 1:52.69.
The Tigers now gear up for a weekend invitational at Austin Saturday before beginning the stretch run to sections and state.
