Here are local and area highlights in history for Aug. 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1986 — Negotiations were under way to haul refuse from Austin and Mower County to the Albert Lea landfill.
1976 — A musical group of four people. “The Changing Times,” would be appearing at Thor’s Side Door, a part of the Albert Lea Holiday Inn for a week.
1946 — Red Cross swimming classes for children were canceled for the rest of the season because of a polio threat in Albert Lea.
