Editorial: Have you compared Edwards to McCain?

Published Tuesday, August 12, 2008

If you turned on Fox News this weekend, you couldn’t miss coverage of the admission Friday by former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards that he had an extramarital affair on the campaign trail in 2006 while his wife was stricken with cancer.

Flip through the channels and you heard this talking head and that talking head saying how his political career is over.

And they are right. It is.

But there remains one question: Is what he did worse than what presumed Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain did?

McCain has admitted to several affairs during his first marriage — to a woman who had remained loyal to him during his years in captivity in Vietnam.

Edwards had one instance of adulterous behavior. McCain had years of adulterous behavior. He eventually left his wife for a younger woman.

We’re not saying what Edwards did was right. It was not. And the fact that he was in the national limelight at the time of the affair — when so many Americans were reaching out to his suffering family — makes the affair seem like a lie to the American people. But we nevertheless find it difficult to skewer one politician over adultery without being “fair and balanced” to another politician who is still in the running for the highest office in the land.

If faithfulness in marriage has become a values test for political office and especially the presidency, then it isn’t hard to compare Sen. McCain to Sen. Barack Obama and decide who is the adulterer.

I cannot compair the two. Fidelity or lack of is never a good thing but the circumstances of McCain being a captive for 5 years would make anyone have a wild, I'm free attitude...Once reality and normalicy came back he settled right down..As far as his first wife being devoted while he was gone remains to be proven. I'm sure there was a lot of adjustments on both sides..No one knows what went on behind close doors. It was a very bad time for both of them.

I am an American living in Beijing. I am a native of Hawaii and, of course, look forward to Barack Obama becoming the first Hawaii born US President.
I admired John McCain until earlier this year and some of the statements he made while campaigning. For example he said he knew how to get Bin Laden and would do so if elected. I wondered why he didn't just tell George Bush where to go to get Bin Laden.
As a trial lawyer I admire John Edwards. The difference between he and McCain? Did McCain lie about his affairs. Certainly it is clear that he cheated on the faithful wife who had waited for him for more than 5 years. She was recovering from a car accident. Did John McCain lie? It seems apparent, unfortunately that John Edwards lied. Sorry to lose him from public service.

Mccain is a liar and a snake. He was POW?! who cares...so was my grandfather but I wil bet you a dollar you do not want him as president either. Talk about a mess!! His poor wife suffered those 5 years him. All the while Song Bird was over there getting the royal treatment. Then he gets back and dumps her? Yup, those are the kind of morals we need for 4 for more years.

Carolyn has posted excuses for McCain's infidelities. There are never any excuses that justify infidelity. And the way that he handled dumping the older, crippled wife and the mother of his 3 children is unforgiveable. Then to choose the younger pretty wife who had money had to be like a knife in the first wife's heart. McCain has a history of womanizing and Cindy should watch him closely. McCain has a poor history on women's rights period and considers them a means to an end. He thinks we should get more education and training to keep up with the boys in pay. We are just as educated and trained as them and often have more credentials and get less pay. Jokes about rape! Yes, McCain is the original celebrity playboy who is on the look.
Watch out Cindy McCain, he offered you up for Ms. Buffalo Chip contest in Sturgis which is a redneck topless, bottomless beauty contest. That is what he thinks of you now. You are in your 50's and your number may also be up for a newer model.

John McBush did not lie about, nor did he hide (except from his wife, I guess) his adultery. I'm not sure that covering up an affair is any worse than doing it (sort of) out in the open.

More importantly, McBush confessed to the North Vietnamese during the first few days of his captivity, which allowed him to have better conditions than the rest of his fellow POW's. There is documented evidence of the fact that he made 30 speeches (via radio broadcasts) for his captors, met with foreign doctors, and went "missing" from his prison for many months.

The NY Daily News said it best in their headlines: "Songbird McCain."

Finally, where was McBush's moral compass when he threw in with the Keating Five? He may not have raised taxes during that time, but American taxpayers paid through both nostrils for that debacle - a scam that McBush went out on a shaky limb to cover up.

McCain: Just Another Slug.

did you get paid for this obama advertisement or was it donated to his campaign ?

So in other words, it's ok for McCain to cheat on his wife (wives, since he also had an affair with Vicki Iseman... and those two instances are just what has been documented)... "since he was a POW".

Well excuse me, but there are plenty of POWs out there who didn't cheat on their wives. I say we give one of them a shot at being president instead. McCain is just a gold digging opportunist.

We've just had eight long years of "me first!" Republicans in charge. It's long past the time we need people in charge who will put America first, instead. I'm not a democrat... but I am willing to give anything EXCEPT a republican a chance.

Republicans- consistently the worst of all options.

Thank you so much for pointing this out. (And having it pop to the top of Google News).

What McCain did to his first wife was(is) truly appalling. Anyone who researches the story of what Johnny Libido did (and how the Reagans disowned him for it) is reason enough for a "real" conservative to be unable to support him. Unfortunately, the hypocrisy of the "family values" crowd is so rarely discussed in our media.

Obama, on the other hand, is a picture perfect "Norman Rockwell" image of an unshakeably moral family man. Ahhh, irony is never really dead, is it?

-Just another opinionated gun-owner voting Democratic (in Colorado).

YES! YES! YES! It seems like the media is afraid of McCain.
And please the EXCUSE for McCain is very... very... weak.

Why do the republicans get so many weak excuses???

There is a lot about McCain that can be compared too.
Jessica Lynch!!! They tried to make her a hero, but failed.
Why is McCain considered a hero? He got shot down. Ok. So did many others. He was a POW. Ok. So where many others.
The difference is he received special treatment because of his family military status at the time. He has lived off it long enough. When will America wake up?!

And his childish ads make me wonder if he still isn't in that mode of "I'm free attitude" Carolyn mentioned.

Basically meaning instability for the office.

Nice article, but Fox won't touch it. At most they would ask a general question. "Did you cheat on your former wife." Fox: "Ok. Lets move on".

Instead of being fearful of the White House being painted black they better worry that A beer company will be running our politics. LOL!

Posted by FreeFlorida08 (anonymous) on August 12, 2008 at 10:07 a.m. (Suggest removal)

McBush dumped his first wife when he saw what she looked like after her accident and upon his return from Vietnam. Beauty's only skin deep to him - no character, no heart.

He hitched his wagon to Big Beer Cindy for her bank account and the connections her father had that could fund McBush's political aspirations (remember: he crashed 5 jets during his Navy years - not the sort of a pilot who had any chance at a military career after the war).

His first job on Capitol Hill was a "liaison" - code for "come on down, boys, the drinking light is ALWAYS lit." During his military "life" McBush's liberty times were known as "train wrecks." Don't know how hard he worked, but McBush has always played hard. Hell, he had his admiral father and grand-father to get his back, right?

McBush: Just Another Slug.

The McBush debate doesn't have to only circulate amongst Dems. Ask his GOP colleagues in the US Senate whether/not they think much of him. You'd be very surprised at how many in his own party think he's way unhinged.

We've already had 8 years of madness - any more and we'll be on the brink of losing it all (unless, of course, your wife is an heiress to a multi-million $$$ beer fortune and you already own six freaking mansions!).

McBush: Just Another Slug.

John McCain is a piece of guano and the lowest form of scum. Isn't it funny how anytime somebody speaks negatively about John McCain, the Repub lie factory accuses all of us of being paid campaigners. I don't need any money to cause me to do what's right, unlike the Repubs. Wave a buck under a Repub's nose and they will sell out their own mothers. This election, like all the others, comes down to whether you are for the fair distribution of wealth (Democrats), or for wealth skewed in favor of corporations and the greedy swine at the top of those corporations (Repubs). John McCain would have the sheep of the world believe that he is for the betterment of the working class. That is a big fat LIE and he knows it.

I think everyone is missing the most important principle of all for the Republican party, Fox News and the mighty Right Wing Wurlitzer: "It's OK if you are Republican". (IOKIYAR). Just look at the posts being made by the Republican supporters.

These are the "Values" that the modern day GOP support.

If every adulterer was removed from office, the world would fall into lawless chaos. Obama wouldn't have Sarkozy to kiss and hug.. And who really knows what Obama is doing on the road? He's probably getting a 2.5 hour work out every day, but we're only privy to 2 hours of it. This stuff really isn't something to try to police in the political arena. Even beloved JFK, who Obama tries to conjure at every turn, was boffing Marilyn Monroe in the whitehouse swimming pool under Jackie O's nose. BUT, if you are confronted with the evidence (as Edwards was), the smoke test is whether you are man enough to admit the affair, or if you are going to be a squid and lie about it.. That is the character test that is most important from a governmental perspective.

Posted by manycats (anonymous) on August 12, 2008 at 10:23 a.m. (Suggest removal)

I'm guessing some people missed the memo, subject: "It's OK If You Are Republican." Immediately abbreviated "IOKIYAR."

Texting obscene messages to young pages? IOKIYAR.

Former aid to Mitt Romney convicted of sexual exploitation of a child? IOKIYAR.

Larry Craig "Nuff Said?" IOKIYAR.

Robert "Bob" Allen, Florida state rep, arrested for offering an undercover male officer oral sex for $20. Bob said his offer had something to do with being afraid of blacks. IOKIYAR

And my personal favourite: Ted Klaudt, four counts rape on two teenage foster daughters with a side of witness tampering. In this case, it wasn't really IOKIYAR, because the fat freak is actually in prison.

Just remember: IOKIYAR. And have a special day.

Fraccle, you said you don't care if McCain fathered a 1/2 baby llama, you are still not voting for Obama. If you are voting for McCain only because you are not voting for Obama, you might as well don't vote this year. You should believe in the person you are voting for, not to do so just because you don't like someone else.

How much can you really trust someone who has corrupted thoughts and moral? Perhaps you can trust someone who had cheated on you, admitted his or her mistakes and promised not to do it again because it takes heart to admitt one's mistakes. What can you think of someone who had done wrong, instead of admitting it, he/she finds excuses to cover their mistakes and disengaged themself from the situation.

I still don't get why McCain was called a Hero by the way. Is he a hero because he was kidnapped? What has he exactly done to be a hero? Is he a hero for ditching his children? because he cheats? or because he knows how to pimp for money? Beer company, oil company, I just won't want him to be my company.

Obama or McCain, they are both politicians, both corrupted. Hypocrisy is the best description of our society, media and government system. Who can we really trust?

The difference is you are basing it on hypothetical and false assumptions and what ifs.

The rest of us are basing it off FACTS!!!

What is the real reason for not voting for Obama? Really?
Be honest like that one lady in Ohio when they interviewed her. She said, "Because he is black". Although he is half and half I can respect her honesty rather than hiding behind the theme "what do we know about him."

What do you REALLY know about McCain except what they want you to know? There is no difference. It is just like our first presidents we didn't know some fathered children from slaves until someone dug it up.

Just about everything you here positive coming from Bush or McCain now was said by Obama a long time ago. Diplomacy!!!!

They want to call Obama a flip-flopper while there changes they want people to consider it bipartisan.
GIVE... ME... A... BREAK!

The one picture that sticks in my mind is McCain and that viagra question. Imagine him responding to a national crisis!!!!

Why hasn't the media covered in more detail of McCains "Songbird" label????

What are they afraid of?

And I don't mean a simple question and answer.
I'm talking about a Tim Russertt style approach where you have stuff to back it up to bring some light to people in the dark about this man.

He calls Obama a celebrity, but why is he looked upon any higher as a POW than any others????
What makes him special?

I mean besides his dad and grand daddy being high ranking military people.

Is America turning into believe what you want to believe rather than the truth?

Since when has infidelity or lying kept anyone out of the White House? I think it's far more important that they improve our country through wise decision making rather than their sparkling personalities. I think that we've been dealt a bad hand for this election. We were offered a woman who was completely incompetent [why not a woman with some intelligence and education?], a senile old lecher with a hot temper, and a 1/2 black American/Muslim who has more regard for his own interests than those of this country. I frankly don't think any of them should be in the White House of all places. I don't know where Edward stands on the Bush dictatorship but I would have considered him more seriously than any of these other choices. As far as Bin Laden is concerned..I don't believe for a minute that they couldn't find him. I think they knew where is was and they had the means to dispose of him quietly and immediately without starting any war. The war was to make Bush richer and more satisfied with himself. God help us all if we have to put one of these people in charge of this country.

Jan
"who has more regard for his own interests than those of this country"

And this has been proven where? Media?
The same "bitter" word that every news media has used throughout the economic downfall?

The fake idea that he is Elite?

Because the media follows him around? We are talking a possibility of history. Hillary would be followed the same had she won.

As for your first opening line it appears lies might keep Obama out despite them not coming from him.

The same people will keep working the American until it fails. Why not it seems like you buying into it again.

Another attempt to bring McCain down, big shock. I actually hope that the Messiah Obama gets elected. You liberals will learn a tough lesson from the business owners of this country. We will continue to make our money at the expenses of the working class. We will be forced to make layoffs to keep our companies healthy. Wealth redistribution via higher taxes will never work. As an added bonus of the New Messiah the liberals promise no new drilling, so get used to $4 to $5 a gallon gas. Everything will go up in price. It would be fun watching all the Obama deciples struggle over the next 4 years.

You think bringing the drilling home to our corrupt people will do anything to help. ROFLMA!

Kinda like what the mortgage companies did to the people huh?

People are desperate and that is the only reason they support it. But here is the problem.

Lack of oversight has killed this country and your republicans like it that way so no one goes to jail. You were jealous of Saddam if you ask me. lol

Oil spill will happen and the damage would be hidden by you.

All it does is EXTEND our dependence on a product that is long overdue that we should no longer be dependent upon.

Why must we wait for other countries to create the technology before us????

No car should be allowed under 40 mpg by now. None!!!!
But at the same time we should be moving over to the next gen vehicles, but we are not.

Greg

If you're looking at Obama as your savior, read his books. Get some idea of who he really is.

We don't need to drill for more oil we have plenty. We just need to refine it...and they will not do that because they can't make mega billions if they do.

Bush has run this country into the ground over the last four years and whoever gets elected will not have an easy time changing it.

Historically the Republican party has leaned everything in favor of big business and the Democratic party has leaned toward the working man/woman. Calling Democrats "liberals" is ludicrous.

They let the mortagage people tell them no problem, they did not want to read the fine print, boo hoo. Manycats you are hilarious and completely right on target: It is a classic case of Do As I Say Not As I Do for those that follow the IOKIYAR rules.

Virginian you said "Just remember what a conservative is, a conservative is a liberal who has been mugged by reality" ROFLMAO! Very humorous irony there, considering the classic conservative attitude of "if I (or George W) says it then it must be true"

Everybody knows that the major difference between the mindset of a liberal and and a conservative is that conservatives are very concrete thinkers; everthing is either right or wrong, black or white. In contrast liberals see the many complex dymanics of every given situation, they do not see the world as black and white but respect many shades in between.

This comparison between McCaine and Edward's is great. It definately hit the nail on the head.

Here are the top ten reasons No one is any better than the other.

10. Sen. Daniel Inouye. The 82-year-old Hawaii Democrat was accused in the 1990s by numerous women of sexual harassment. Democrats cast doubt on the allegations and the Senate Ethics Committee dropped its investigation.

9. Former Rep. Gus Savage. The Illinois Democrat was accused of fondling a Peace Corps volunteer in 1989 while on a trip to Africa. The House Ethics Committee decided against disciplinary action in 1990.

8. Rep. Barney Frank. The outspoken Massachusetts Democrat hired a male prostitute who ran a prostitution service from Frank’s residence in the 1980s. Only two Democrats in the House of Representatives voted to censure him in 1990.

7. Former Sen. Brock Adams. The late Washington Democrat was forced to stop campaigning after numerous accusations of drugging, assault and rape, the first surfacing in 1988.

6. Former Rep. Fred Richmond. This New York Democrat was arrested in 1978 for soliciting sex from a 16-year-old. He remained in Congress and won re-election—before eventually resigning in 1982 after pleading guilty to tax evasion and drug possession.

5. Former Rep. John Young. The late Texas Democrat increased the salary of a staffer after she gave in to his sexual advances. The congressman won re-election in 1976 but lost two years later.

4. Former Rep. Wayne Hays. The late Ohio Democrat hired an unqualified secretary reportedly for sexual acts. Although he resigned from Congress, the Democratic House leadership stalled in removing him from the Administration Committee in 1976.

3. Former Rep. Gerry Studds. He was censured for sexual relationship with underage male page in 1983. Massachusetts voters returned him to office for six more terms.

2. Former Rep. Mel Reynolds. The Illinois Democrat was convicted of 12 counts of sexual assault with a 16-year-old. President Bill Clinton pardoned him before leaving office.

All the hype about who should be the next President is all for not. I would like to see all these people get up in arms and digging for all the dirt when people are being elected into Congress. McCain made a mistake but owned up to it. Which is unusal for a polition in the first place. We don't know what his wife has done or how she felt at the time. Man, I would LOVE to hear Rick Warren ask McBush a question regarding his past infidelity and how that jives with his current "position" on family values. Seems that McBush and Sen Obama will share the stage with Rev Warren soon and Warren will be asking all of the questions.

It would be sooooooo very interesting to see how all of the McCainiacs would "handle the truth" from their pond scum of a candidate.

As for "Anonymous' " posit on how the first Ms McBush felt/feels about her (lost) man, she has recently stated that she has never stopped loving him and believed that, when he came back from Vietnam he "was 40 but wanted to be 25." How's THAT for a personal quality of someone aspiring to be the Leader of the Free World?

Oh, I get it - being an "independent" Republican means having the FREEDOM to comandeer a freaking US military jet ... fly from DC to Hawaii (why McBush feels Obama's vacation destination makes him an "elitist" is curious to me) to flirt with Cindy Beer Keg while he was still married, then dump Wife #1 and marry the Suds Queen 30 days later? Nice. Family values. Family man. Upstanding citizen. Ready on Day One. For what? To chase skirts around the Oval Office? Haven't we had quite enough of that sort of crap? And don't get me started about the Keating Five. What did THAT little fullisade cost McSquirrel? Nada. he should have been tossed out of Congress on his butt. Oh, so NOW he's the "champion of reform? Really? Check the record. And while you're at it, check to see how many times McBush has voted in FAVOR of programs/assistance for veterans? Is that why there's a group called Vietnam Vets Against McCain? Tweet, tweet, Songbird McCain. Not my nickname for the guy - the Vietgong gave it to him.

Plus, the little creep is unhinged. just ask the GOP senators who have served with McBush. He's a screaming maniac. You really want someone like that with 24/7/265 access to nuclear warheads?

To quote singer/songwriter John Gorka, "war makes war, it won't make peace."

This Iraq debacle ain't no video game, ladies and gentlemen, real American kids die (over 4100 of them so far - some of whom you may know).

Let McBush's record in the support of veterans/veterans affairs speak for itself:
September 2007: McCain voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments. At the time, nearly 65% of people polled in a CNN poll indicted that "things are going either moderately badly or very badly in Iraq.
July 2007: McCain voted against a plan to drawdown troop levels in Iraq. At the time, an ABC poll found that 63% thought the invasion was not worth it, and a CBS News poll found that 72% of respondents wanted troops out within 2 years.
March 2007: McCain was too busy to vote on a bill that would require the start of a drawdown in troop levels within 120 days with a goal of withdrawing nearly all combat troops within one year. Around this time, an NBC News poll found that 55% of respondents indicated that the US goal of achieving victory in Iraq is not possible. This number has not moved significantly since then.
February 2007: McCain didn’t even bother to show up and vote against a resolution condemning it. However, at the time a CNN poll found that only 16% of respondents wanted to send more troops to Iraq (that number has since declined to around 10%), while 60% said that some or all should be withdrawn. This number has since gone up to around 70%.
June 2006: McCain voted against a resolution that Bush start withdrawing troops but with no timeline to do so.
May 2006: McCain voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.
April 2006: McCain was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.
March 2006: McCain voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes.
March 2004: McCain once again voted for abusive tax loopholes over veterans when he voted against creating a reserve fund to allow for an increase in Veterans' medical care by $1.8 billion by eliminating abusive tax loopholes.
October 2003: McCain voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000.
April 2003: McCain urged other Senate members to table a vote (which never passed) to provide more than $1 billion for National Guard and Reserve equipment in Iraq related to a shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, and tactical vests.
August 2001: McCain voted against increasing the amount available for medical care for veterans by $650,000,000.

Virginian, the guy is used to drinking beer that someone else purchased.  He probably has one hand out and his mouth open most of the time.  The Democrats have not supported the troops or veterans for many years.  If they bring up a military spending bill it will have tons of pork or tax increases attached.  They think they are Robin Hoods.  Steal from the rich - give to the poor.  The more money they need to buy votes the lower the income requirements needed to be considered rich.  Look up HR 1223.  There are probably 200 Dems sponsoring it but it won't hit the floor.  They are in control.  Talk is cheap.  It takes money to buy beer unless you are a democrat.

And while we're at it, sports fans, what exactly IS McBush's "plan for victory" in Iraq? He's adamant about staying until there is some sort of victory - whatever is meant by that vague statement - but the old goat has never once said how, when, and with what resources he'll achieve whatever the hell it is he wants to achieve.

One is reminded of the hyperactive hampster on the wheel in a child's room, incessantly spinning around, trying to achieve whatever the heck it is that hampsters want.

McHampster. Spinning away, while we all pay, and pay, and pay.

And while we're at it, have any of you GOP'ers figured out that staying in Iraq is worse than any tax hike a Dem (or GWB's father, or Ronnie Ray-Gun, or any other republican who's ever had the tumerity to raise taxes) could ever conceive of? Where the hell do you think those billions (oops, trillions) come from? Thin air? The Chinese. The South Koreans. The Saudis. The nutjobs in Singapore. The interest payments on the national debt - goosed to the freaking roof thanks to the spending spree GWB's been on since Day One - is over $300 billion/yr.

I don't know about any of you, but any company or household that ran its finances like that is waaaaaaay out of control. As a CFO, Bush is a bum. And suckers like the "beer boys" above get taken to the cleaners paying for this just like the rest of us. They're just blinded by the light of GOP lies, and false hopes (like, we're gonna lower your taxes and lower the deficit at the same time).

Most local colleges offer night school classes in basic economics. I suggest you two take a class and have your eyes opened to how you've been deceived.

Go ahead, admit it ... you were wrong.

D&V -

How many veterans groups do either of you high-rolling GOP'ers contribute to? Better yet - did either of you ever serve in the military?

Here's all you have to know about how today's military feels about the two presidential candidates: military personnel (i.e., currently in uniform) have contributoed SIX TIMES more $$ to Obama than McBush.

Want to know why? Most service personnel believe Iraq was a waste of time, money and LIVES. They believe they've all been run around, screwed, then mistreated by YOUR PARTY once they get back stateside.

Do you bozos believe the scandals at Walter Reade - which happened on GW Bush's (that famous National Guard "war hero") watch - were an accident? You think today's war vets LIKE living in filth at a DOD hospital?

You want to have an open and honest debate, let's go. Your beer-drinking comments are the usual sort of nonsense that comes from the GOP. Seldom do you know how to argue. You're all very good at namecalling, but so were most 5th grade dunces.

Next time, just come armed with some facts. Save the third-rate insults for the playground.

Virginian, this Florida person isn't sitting outside drinking beer.  He must be an introvert who sits in a little room and memorizes the party BS.  If he ever got out in public he would find that there are other things to do.   Try to get a life.  They put in the all volunteer military so those that didn't want to serve didn't have to make a move to Canada or run and hide when things got a little rough.  I don't care if a congressman or senator didn't serve in the military.  I just want them to put our country first and the democrats put the party first.

Putting the country first? Is that really what the GOP thinks about? is that why the Iraq War was "announced" after Labor Day? Hardly, gents. The GOP Crime Family sent it up the flag pole in Sept because that's when you ALWAYS "launch new product introductions."

You boobs.

It was all about marketing, and you fell for it - hook, line, and sinker.

And the bill for this little adventure? How about $1.5 trillion. Wanna write a check or will you be paying cash?

So THAT'S what GOP stands for: "Get Outta Patriotism" by "making a move to Canada or running to hide when things get a little tough." Now I get it.

It's really John Sidney McDiapers, isn't it? That's what your little Songbird did, right? The minute he was in the hands of the Vietcong he sang like he was at Carnegie Hall. And he kept singing until his release. That's why he cried in front of his (true hero) father when he got home and told him how he had betryed his country. Your country. My country.

"Called to Serve" doesn't mean "run and hide" like you whimpering GOP draft-dodgers. I guarandamntee you that this idiotic war in Iraq would be over the day after Congress re-instated the draft. You Republicans would run so fast your little pants would catch fire.

That's what you two and the rest of your ilk have tried to do with Iraq - make it someone else's problem. Some poor volunteer slob, trying to get some $$$$ after his/her enlistment time to pay for an education (over 80% of enlistees list that as their primary reason for enlisting).

What the hell? Let 'em go fight that messy little war and who cares if they come back or not? None of my family is there, so what the hell, right guys?

Check out the dictionary definition of "patriotism" and see if you and your ilk fit it. I'm betting you don't come close.

And that flag pin on your lapel? Probably made in China.

Check back in when you grow spines.

And, finally, it's "Schlitz", not "Schilitz."

I drink neither Schlitz nor Pabst Blue Ribbon. I prefer something with more character and style, like Sam Adams, or Anchor Steam. In moderation.

Florida, did you ever serve in the military? Those that have don't need a dictionary to find out what patriotism means.

Certainly did. USMA, then 5yrs RA.

No combat, but was always ready for any situation. Professionally done.

D -
Just so you understand my beef with McBush is the fact that he confessed to the Vietcong - some say on the day he was captured. Does that sound like a war hero to you?

Not my idea of a straight-talker. Add the way he trashed Wife #1 ... the keating 5 scandal (which cost ALL of billions in the 70's) and it doesn't add up to a winning hand.

Plus, the old goat has changed 180 degrees from 2000. Now, he's as much in the back pocket of the corporate lobbyists as The Bushter was/is. As my mother-in-law likes to say, "Nothing good can come from this."

We all - every American - deserves a change ... a fresh start ... and we all need to take a hard look at what needs to be done to fix what GWB has broken. No more torture. No more unprovoked wars. No more trashing of environmental laws/regs. Energy policies that look to the future and make all 300 million of us pitch in to do the right thing for Planet Earth - our true legacy to our kids. And a good education for EVERY American.

And, most of all, no more free ride for anyone - including fat cat Republicans who have been living off of the rest of us for 8 long, long, years. I'm tired of it and I believe in my heart that most everyone else is, too.

No more "same old, same old" which is what a McBush presidency promises.

Plus, I feel Obama will choose Jim Webb as his VP. Couldn't ask for a better military man than that.

OK, numbnuts. Here are a few facts for you to ruminate over during the upcoming weekend. They have to do with - you guessed it - McBush's voting record. You Neanderthals wanted proof that the Arizona GranPa was a better legislator than Barack, well, here's your proof to the contrary.

And BTW - any time you'd like to lay off the "you must be stoned, Dude" rebuttals (as lame as they may sound to the Real World) - you're more than welcome to start dealing with facts versus fiction.

Here's McBush's voting record as a US Senator (i.e., since 1995):
on ...
Abortion - 4 No Votes
Agriculture - 8 No Votes
Appropriations - 12 No Votes
Budget, Spending & Taxes - 56 No Votes
Business & Consumers - 32 No Votes
Civil Liberties/Rights - 7 No Votes
Crime - 2 No Votes
Defense - 11 No Votes (didn't vote at all in 2008)
Education - 9 No Votes (voted once in 2007, never in 2008)
Employment - 2 No Votes
Energy - 15 No Votes (didn't vote at all in either 2007 or 2008)
Environment - 21 No Votes - (didn't vote at all in either 207 or 2008)
Executive Branch - 6 No Votes (didn't vote for the new Atty General; didn't vote to approve Alan Greenspan as head of Fed Reserve)
Families/Children Issues - 4 No Votes
Federal/State/Local issues - 2 No Votes
Foreign Aid - 21 No votes (didn't vote at all in 2008)
Gun Issues - 1 No Vote (hasn't voted at all since 2006)

Housing/Property - 5 No Votes (voted once in 2008)
Immigration - 10 No Votes (didn't vote at all in 2008)
Indigenous People - 3 No Votes (has NEVER voted; AZ has 5% Native American population - you'd think this issue mattered to his constituents)
Labor - 6 No Votes
Legal Issues - 5 No Votes
Military issues - 11 No Votes (didn't vote at all in 2008 - isn't McBush the "friend of the military?")
National Security - 15 no Votes
Regulatory Issues - 1 No Vote
Reproductive Issues - 2 No Votes
Seniors/Social Security issues - 5 No Votes (didn't vote at all in 2008)
Social issues - 5 No Votes
Technology/Communications Issues - 3 No Votes
Trade Issues - 5 No Votes (No votes in either 2007 or 2008)
Transportation - 9 No Votes (didn't vote in either 2007 or 2008)
Veterans Issues - 3 No Votes (didn't vote at all in 2007 or 2008)
Welfare/Poverty Issues - 10 No Votes (voted ONCE since 1996)
Women's Issues - 2 No Votes

Kinda begs the question of what the f__ck was McNeverland doing instead of voting? Carousing? Blowing off steam? Hugging GW Bush? Hugging himself?

Raise your hand when you any of you morons get a qualified candidate to run in November. This one's been out to lunch for so long I'll bet he thinks EVERYONE gets a free lunch.

And, don't tell me - you probably think Romney's his best choice as a running mate. Stop, please, I'm laughing too hard.

I can not get that deep into politics. I just throw in a few lines to get the computers humming. My main beef against the dems are their love of taxation and their dislike of the military. I am a retired member of the Armed Forces and I have seen the results of their attitude first hand. Have a good one!
