Albert Lea wrestlers participate in Luther College wrestling camp

The Albert Lea High School wrestling team placed second at the 2008 Luther College Team Wrestling Camp in Decorah, Iowa.

More than 750 athletes attended the 2008 Luther Wrestling camps directed by Luther head wrestling coach Dave Mitchell. 

Clinicians at the camps included two-time NCAA champion and former University of Iowa Wrestler T.J. Williams, Luther College NCAA champions Matt Pyle and Nate Hansen, National Coach of the Year Dave Mitchell, and NCAA champions and Luther coaches Jeff O’Gara and Greg Lonning.  Also presenting were Jim Jackson, head coach at Apple Valley High School and Brad Smith, head coach at Iowa City High School.

Campers participated in team building activities, intensive “Train Like a Norseman” sessions, technique sessions and live wrestling sessions. The camp closed with an individual tournament.

Two Albert Lea wrestlers earned Wrestler of the Day honors at Luther camp including: Garrett Wangsness and Trevor Rasmussen. In addition, 11 Albert Lea wrestlers earned individual tournament champion honors: Dakota Wangsness, Trey Hable, Trevor Friday, Dalton Westerlund, Cody Hansen, Zach Koziolek, Carter Kortan, Caleb Guadian, Adam Kermes, Jordan Holland and Ben Nagle.

Jim Tripp, current Luther wrestler, served as Albert Lea “Camp Coach” and provided wrestlers with valuable feedback.
