Here are some local and area highlights in history for May 30, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1990 — A tie vote in the Albert Lea City Council to elect a person to represent the 2nd Ward resulted in a coin toss between Rod Johnson and David McPherson. Johnson won.

1980 — Storms, tornado and hail caused damages to several places in Freeborn County. Most of the losses appeared to be in the Emmons area, plus crops in other areas of the county.

1970 — The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency said using barrels to burn refuse in residential areas was a violation of

law.
