Published Thursday, August 21, 2008

Here are local and area highlights in history for Aug. 21, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1991 — Three photos in the Tribune were based on Kernel Days in Wells. One photo said Stokley USA, owner of the canning plant in Wells at this time, donated the free corn for people to eat.

1981 — Guy Lombardo’s Royal Canadian Orchestra, directed by Teddy Phillips, would be appearing the following evening at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa.

1941 — The Del Monte Canning Co. purchased the Wells Canning Co. and would be selling the new corn pack under the Del Monte brand name.
