Good Sam segment likely to appear on Thursday's NBC 'Today Show'

Published Wednesday, December 3, 2008

The case of alleged abuse at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea will likely be told on NBC’s “Today Show” on Thursday.

The show starts at 7 a.m.

News released Monday about the alleged abuse and charges against Albert Lea High School graduates Brianna Broitzman, 19, and Ashton Larson, 18, spread quickly, and producers at NBC said they heard about it Wednesday from the Drudge Report, which linked its story to Smokinggun.com.

The news has also spread to other national affiliates like ABC and even some news organizations out of the country.

Broitzman and Larson each face 10 or more charges for the alleged abuse, including criminal abuse of a vulnerable adult and assault in the fifth degree.

The details of the allegations surfaced after the release of the Department of Health’s report in August that concluded four teenagers were involved in verbal, sexual and emotional abuse of 15 residents at the nursing home in Albert Lea. The residents suffered from mental degradation conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Since that report, all of the teenagers have been terminated from the nursing home.

We can only hope that now that the world will be watching Nelson will step up and do the job he was elected to do!!!!!!!!! Good going everyone. This has to be a step in the right direction.

Everyone interviewed needs to comment on the lack of backbone in the county attorneys office and then maybe just maybe we can get the service we have been paying for all these years from Mr Nelson.

I saw the plane coming in this morning, and thought it was odd to have a big plane like that coming into town...glad I now know why. Wonder if O'Rielly or Greta Van Sustern (among others) will be making their way this direction soon....

I'm so glad this is going to get national attention. I think that is the only way real justice will prevail!

as was posted last night, MARK ANDERSON, THE BIG SHOT, maybe needs to inform NBC tomorrow on his tactics of hiring, "HIRE HER, SHE'S CUTE". It's high time he move on so GSC can go back to what it was. And clean out the rest of the Dept. Heads that have their spouses working there. WHAT A JOKE!!!!

I am originally from Clarks Grove, MN, but have since moved to NYC. Today I was getting onto the subway, and two suits were talking about it "Those girls from Albert Lea, MN." This is not the way Albert Lea should be shown to the world. What those girls did was sick and wrong, and knowing 2 of them personally makes me sick to my stomach. If any of them ever dreamed of being famous, they can now know that they will live forever in infamy.

This is not good for Albert Lea but had the county done it's job to start with than we could have kept this at home. Now we are airing our dirty laundry to the world. Those girls should pay but it may cost all of us. Not all press is good for the city....

Gross. Now this will be sensationalized and they will be known as the "barbie groppers" or something. This is a serious crime, but it will be a laughing stock.

...and they'll get probation, per Nelson.

I'm a CNA myself, I just want to know why you would even get into that field if you are going to act that way??? Just go work at Wal-Mart.

How do you think the Today Show should handle this story?

I would interview the prosecutor and ask why he doesn't try to get jail time for these girls. He said he expects no jail time.

Since the prosecutor doesn't feel that the vulnerable elderly are worth protecting, what other groups does he feel are not worthy of protection? Infants? Children? Mentally handicapped?

Is his decision to go lightly on the torturers based on the fact (or at least alleged fact) that he knows the families of the alleged perpetrators? Does he know the families?

What if the alleged perpetrators would have been another class of people, ie minority members, unsightly males etc, instead of attractive young female family friends (allegedly)--would those other groups get a "free pass" from the prosecutor?

FLY -- you hit the nail on the head there, Nelson hasn't and still doesn't do his job and what does he get???? A RAISE!!!!!!! Go figure, I guess he just wants the money and lets the criminals get away with stuff as usual.

Just watched it on the Today show and was not surprised that Ashton's dad says that his daughter didn't do this and the media is exploiting everything. Mr. Larson, this is why your daughter is in the predicament she is in, no value on morals and deny everything even though she already admitted to it.

Watched it too, did you catch how upset they are about Nelson's attitude. Are you listening to any of us Mr. Nelson?????

I just watched it also, they said the prosecuter isn't taking this serious. They got that right! The comment that Mr. Larson said all I can say is WOW, wonder why your daughter is the way she is!

Whose plane came in? Anyone know?

Posted by brokewhitegirl (anonymous) on December 4, 2008 at 8:08 p.m. (Suggest removal)

We should all make it our duty to start e mailing the office of Mr. Nelson on a daily basis, heck, e mail others to about how horrible he is, i.e. the Governor
