Woman backs car over child
3-year-old girl dies in Myrtle driveway
Published Wednesday, December 17, 2008
MYRTLE A 3-year-old girl died Tuesday after her mother accidentally backed over her with a car.
According to Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office reports, Faith Cristine Kampa, died from injuries sustained during the incident.
The incident happened around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in front of the family's house 107 Main St. in Myrtle, according to reports. There were three others in the car with mother Shannon Kampa and three others outside of the car when it took place.
Reports state the 3-year-old girl was not in the car and was with the others delivering the Freeborn County Shopper weekly publication. When the mother went to back up from the driveway of her home, she didn’t know the girl was behind the car. The child was runover by the passenger side rear back tire.
Myrtle First Responders and Glenville First Reponders came to the scene, and Faith was transported by ambulance to Albert Lea Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
When authorities arrived, Faith was laying in the roadway about four feet from the curb. The car was parked in front of the house on the roadway, the reports say.
Larry and Shannon Kampa reside at 107 Main St. in Myrtle.
