Tigers advance to championship with 5-3 win over Tartan

The Albert Lea girls' hockey team advanced to the Austin Invite championship with a 5-3 win over Tartan Tuesday night in Austin.
The Tigers (4-7-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the third period when Madi Passingham scored an unassisted goal 2 minutes, 18 seconds into the third and held on a late charge by Titans (5-8-0) in the final frame.
Tartan scored three goals in the third, but it was largely too little, too late as Albert Lea continued to pound the Titans with shots.
The Tigers finished with 40 shots in the game, while Tartan had just 23.
Passingham finished with two goals on the night. Sam Stanley put Albert Lea on top at the 4:05 mark of the first on an assist from Amy Gackstetter on a power play goal.
Lauren Klick scored in the second period to put the game at 2-0 on an assist from Lauren Draayer. Natasha Moyer added an insurance goal at 15:47 in the third as the Tigers advanced to the championship game for the second straight season.
Albert Lea will get a rematch with Northfield Wednesday for the championship at 2 p.m. The Raiders defeated the Tigers 6-3 in the first game of the season. Lauren Klick had a three goals in the game.
