50 years ago — 1958

-The Albert Lea Packers of the Southern Minnesota League signed Albert Lea High School graduate Tom Donovan, Hal Snyder, Paul Flores, Charlie Weathers and manager Bill Ankoviak for the 1958 baseball season.

-New head track coach Bruce Johnson at Albert Lea High School, in his first year out of Macalester College, greeted seven returning letter winners, including Don Tasker, Ron Jacobson, John Jordahl, Roger Villarreal, Ron Dahlen, Paul Hill and Dave Palmer.

25 years ago — 1983

-Awards presented at the annual girls basketball banquet include: Most Valuable Player - Roberts VanderWaal, Most Improved - Wendy Berg, Most Inspirational - Brenda Johnson.

-Ross Vermedahl of ALHS, was a unanimous choice for Big Nine Conference 1982-83 All Conference team. Jeff Polis was also named to the team

and Andy Larson receiver honorable mention.

-Named to the Border League 1982-83 All Conference Boys Basketball Team were Jeff Pierce, Greg Stenzel and Al Erdahl from Bricelyn, Dave Stiernagle, Bob Hanson and Daryl Solberg from Freeborn, Roger Thompson from Kiester-Walters and Dave Rasmussen from Alden-Conger.

10 years ago — 1998

- Named the Albert Lea Tribune All Area Girls Basketball Coach of the Year was John Schultz of New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva and named the Player of the Year was Amanda Moxon of NRHEG. Named to the first team were Moxon, Lisa Kyte of NRHEG, Jennie Johnson of Northwood-Kensett, Jayna Newman of Lake Mills and Laura Birk of United South Central. Named to the second team were Michelle Mattson and Marie Lindeman of Alden-Conger, Melissa Obermeyer of USC, April Larson of Albert Lea, Jenny Schrader of Glenville-Emmons and Amy Brunsvold of N-K.

- Pickerel Lake with a 36-3 season record won the Brotherhood Dartball League title and they also won the playoff title. Pickeral Lake defeated Lunder-Round Prairie 7-1 in the semi-final game and defeated Emmons 13-4 in the championship game. Team members included Dennis Schmidt, Mark Behrends, Chris Sorenson, Jeremy Waters, Leonard Breamer, John Krueger, Gordon Toenges, Corey Wittmer, Dave Sorensen,Ken Lahti, David Behrends and Carton Wittmer.
