City warns of people asking for water samples

Published Wednesday, July 30, 2008

Albert Lea City Hall announced Monday that it is warning citizens against people going door to door after hours posing as city employees and asking for water samples.

“The city of Albert Lea will not come to your door unannounced asking for a water sample. In the event that the city does need a water sample, a letter, identified with the city’s logo, the city superintendent’s name and phone number will be sent to you,” said the announcement.

A city employee may come to your door asking for a meter reading.

“City employees are easily identifiable, they will be in a city of Albert Lea truck, and will have badges identifying them as city of Albert Lea employees. Ask to see this identification. Please do not let strangers into your home,” the announcement said.

If you are unsure, please call the city at 377-4300 or the Albert Lea Police Department, 377-5200.
