Thumbs

Published Monday, June 30, 2008

Up to people helping the Soukups.

It is never easy to lose your house and belongings in a fire. You can’t replace photographs, heirlooms and beloved possessions. The Soukups gave to the community last year by illustrating and writing a children’s book for the annual United Way of Freeborn County campaign. The book was called “Kindness is Contagious.” Thanks to the people who have given to the Soukups in their time of need.

Down to property damage crimes.

Now that the weather has warmed there seems to be a spate of property crimes: car windows shattered, mailboxes banged up, car stereo theft. It’s nothing too unusual in any community, but the crimes are senseless.

Up to Kindermusik.

The Albert Lea Family Y offers Kindermusik, a class that blends music and movement. It’s a good class for rambunctious little boys and girls. It teaches cognitive, social and vocal skills. Parents with

kids in the class say positive things about it, so we suggesting signing your little ones up if you find the time. Ages range from newborns to 7-year-olds.

I can appreciate the disappointment of Donut Hut closing, but instead of giving a "thumbs down", why not a "thumbs up" for all the years of tasty donuts and good service they provided our community?
