Peek at the Past

Published Saturday, November 22, 2008

Here are local and area highlights in history for Nov. 23, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1989 — Dr. Edward Shaman became the new coroner for Freeborn County, replacing Dr. Leon Steiner who resigned for health reasons.

1979 — An Audubon wildlife film on the Galapagos Islands would be shown at the Albert Lea High School Auditorium. This film was the third in a series sponsored by Audubon

1939 — Despite confusion over celebrating Thanksgiving on the third or fourth Thursday of November, Albert Lea stayed with the tradition of observing this holiday on the fourth Thursday.
