Salem Women’s Executive Board

The Salem Lutheran (Albert Lea) Women’s Executive Board met on Nov. 5. Judy Dilling presided. Eleanor Schember gave a devotional reading entitled “Heaven’s Grocery Store.” The secretary’s report was read by Pauline Hall. The treasurer’s report was given by Sharon Dilling.
Four women from Salem attended the Blue River Valley Conference Workshop held at Good Shepherd Church at Wells on Oct. 11. Those attending were Judy and Sharon Dilling, Eleanor Schember and Pauline Hall. Comments were given on the workshop.
Salem ladies had their first chance to work in the new kitchen at the annual WELCA dedication potluck Oct. 20. Jan Jerdee, guest speaker, gave a talk she titles “Crystals,” a ministry she does with the deaf and blind.
Deb Beighley was commended for gathering the S.O.S. Group (Salem Over Sixty) on short notice on Oct. 23 to take a trip to the A&W Rootbeer Restaurant at Austin. Many went to see the “Extreme Makeover House” on the way home. Beighley also reported that the quilt raffle fundraiser for S.O.S. brought in $391 and the quilt was won by Julie Dorman.
The kitchen dedication dinner was held Oct. 26. Recognition and appreciation was given to kitchen project chairwoman Mary Nelson and her committee and all who worked diligently to produce a convenient, well equipped, up-to-date kitchen. The new kitchen was tested again on Nov. 4, when 343 guests attended the Salem soup and pie supper.
Committee reports revealed that 22 Salem shut-in members had been called on in October. Mary Gulbrandson and her committee had polished silver, purchased necessary items for wedding use and assisted with one wedding. Mary and Jim Gulbrandson had donated a tall rack for hanging long gowns. Two weddings will be held on Dec. 13 and 17. Laurel Herdina reported Sew ‘N Tell (quilters) had met on Oct. 14 and 28 and packed 57 boxes of used clothing and a box of quilts for the Marie Sandvik Center, 19 boxes of clothing for Appalachia, three boxes went to the Veterans Administration Hospital and three quilts are ready when needed.
Judy Dilling requested that all circle leaders give her their new officers and any changes in projects and remembrances to assist her in compiling the 2009 WELCA Yearbook. Circle duties for December were reviewed.
