The 22nd annual Big Island Rendezvous & Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday at Bancroft Bay Park. The historical reenactment of early America opens at 10 a.m. each day. Attendees park at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds and take the free shuttle to the entrance. There will be entertainment, food, Civil War live cannon competition, arts and crafts, blacksmithing, candlemaking, painters, woodworking, gunsmithing, scrimshaw, pottery exhibits and exhibitors, gunmaker display, tipi tours, Minnesota homesteaders cabin, black powder shooting competition and cooking demonstrations.
Admission is $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 11. Children 5 years and younger get in free. There are also $25 family passes.
Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.
Friday, Oct. 3
- The North Star Corn Maze, one mile north and one mile west of Northwood, Iowa, will be open from noon to midnight. Admission is $5 per person; children under 5 will be admitted free.
- The Pelican Breeze II will hold a pizza cruise at 6 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m.; call 383-2630.
- The Prairie River Camp Corn Maze, located three miles south of Interstate 90 on Highway 253, will be open from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 for those 12 years and older and $3 for ages 5 to 11. There is a family rate of $18.
- Youth for Christ Mini Golf will be open at Northbridge Mall from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost is $5 per person.
- Albert Lea Community Theatre presents “Stand by Your Man” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. For tickets, call 377-4371.
Saturday, Oct. 4
- The North Star Corn Maze will be open from noon to midnight.
- Youth for Christ Mini Golf will be open at Northbridge Mall from noon to 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per person.
- The Prairie River Camp Corn Maze will be open from 2 to 9 p.m.
- The Pelican Breeze II will hold a narrated cruise at 4 p.m. No reservations are needed.
- Albert Lea Community Theatre presents “Stand by Your Man” at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. For tickets, call 377-4371.
Sunday, Oct. 5
- The Emmons Volunteer Fire Department will host a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Emmons Fire Hall. Pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice, coffee and milk will be served for a donation.
- The Audubon Science Center will hold a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Skyline Plaza. Cost is $6 for adults, $13 for ages 4 to 12 years; and children 3 and younger eat free; tickets may be purchased in advance at the Audubon Science Center for $6 per person or at the door. Proceeds help fund the after-school program and operational costs. Baked goods and Papa Murphy’s fundraiser cards will also be available for purchase.

- The Pelican Breeze II will host a cruise with Al Batt at 3 p.m. Reservations are needed by 4 p.m. Saturday; call 383-2630.
