The Rev. Jim Berning of St. Theodore Catholic Church extends a blessing over pets Friday afternoon in the church parking lot. The blessing was in conjunction with the feast day for St. Francis, who was the founder of the Franciscan Order and the patron saint of animals, birds and the environment. Fifteen dogs, two cats, a frog and a salamander were brought for the blessing Friday; another service was held Saturday afternoon for those who couldn’t attend Friday.
