Emily Wirkus awarded transfer scholarship
Emily Wirkus of Albert Lea received the Robert Campbell Transfer Student Scholarship from the University of North Dakota for the 2008-09 academic year. Wirkus is a graduate of Albert Lea High School and the daughter of Daniel and Mary Louise Wirkus.
The Robert Campbell Transfer Student Scholarship is awarded by the Campbell Foundation to students chosen for past academic performance and promise of future success.
Albert Lea Medical Center awards scholarships
Albert Lea Medical Center — part of Mayo Health System — recently awarded two $750 scholarships to students in its service area who are enrolled in an accredited college or technical school and pursuing a career in health care.
Scholarship recipients are: Jared Butler, Albert Lea, who is pursuing a degree in pharmacy at Drake University, Des Moines; and Michael Haugsdal, Northwood, Iowa, who is pursuing a degree in integrative physiology at the University of Iowa, Iowa City.
Two additional $750 scholarships were awarded to non-traditional students who are pursuing post-secondary education in a health care field five or more years after completing high school or receiving a GED. Recipients of non-traditional scholarships are: Jenna Godeke, Hollandale, pursuing a degree in nursing at Concordia College, Moorhead; and Heather Hoelscher, Albert Lea, pursuing a degree in nursing at Riverland Community College in Austin.
