Published Saturday, October 4, 2008
HAYWARD The crowd will get to determine the winner of a duct-tape contest Saturday at the work site of the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" reality TV show on the DeVries acreage three miles west of Hayward. Also, the show's band, led by “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” designer Paul DiMeo, will perform later Saturday.
DiMeo is hosting a duct tape challenge at 3 p.m. Saturday at the construction site of the new DeVries home, 84588 200th St., Hayward, inviting members of the public to make items out of duct tape to help decorate Derik DeVries room. The 15-year-old likes to make things out of duct tape. People with duct-tape creations need to bring them at 3 p.m. From about 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., the crowd will judge the items. The winner will get a special trophy. The winning item will go in Derik's bedroom, and it might be featured in the show.
Between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., there will be a fundraiser for the family. Three local bands will perform, and then DiMeo's band will perform.
