“The care of human life and happiness and not their destruction is the first and only legitimate object of good government.” — Thomas Jefferson.  

In 2002, as an Ilinois legislator, Barack Obama, voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies that survived late-term abortions. That same year, a similar federal law, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, was signed by the president. Only 15 of 435 house members opposed it, and it passed the Senate unanimously on a voice vote. 

Both the Ilinois and the federal bill sought equal treatment for babies who survived premature inducement for the purpose of abortion and wanted babies who were born prematurely and given live saving medical attention. 

Even the radically pro-abortion group National Abortion Rights Action League released a statement which said, “NARAL does not oppose passage of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act”. 

Why then did Barack Obama, the man who wants to be our president, vote against this bill in the Ilinois Senate and worked to twice kill it while heading the committee? The bill was eventually referred to the senate’s Health and Human Services Committee, which Obama also chaired. He never called the bill up for a vote.  

Jill Stanek, a registered delivery ward nurse who was the prime mover behind the legislation after witnessing aborted babies being born alive and left to die, gave graphic testimony before Obama in support of the Induced Infant Liability Act. She also gave testimony to Congress for the similar federal bill. None of it fazed Obama, and he remained defiant in his opposition to allowing these helpless little babies medical attention after surviving abortion attempts. 

I implore all people of goodwill regardless of your party affiliations, is this the type of person we want as the leader of the free world? Is this the kind of “change we can believe in”? Is this a person with the best interest of the weakest and most vulnerable among us at heart? Is this a person with the sound moral judgment to lead a government based on the principals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Is Barack Obama, the man who wants to be president, so enamoured with the god of “choice” that he is willing to deny a dying baby medical care after a failed abortion?  

Please join me in supporting Sen. John McCain and Gov.  Sarah Palin as our next president and vice president. They have strong records of the protection of all human life, and, as Jefferson so eloquently put it, “the care of human life and happiness and not their destruction is the first and only legitimate object of good government.”
