Parts of Richway Drive closed for park cleanup

Published Thursday, October 9, 2008

Portions of Richway Drive are closed because of the Edgewater Park cleanup project. Crews will use large trucks to haul waste from the former dump site at Edgewater Park to a new cell at Albert Lea’s transfer station.

Those areas include:

• Richway Drive from Itasca Road 450 feet north to Belgrade Drive and Richway Drive from Itasca Road 500 feet west to Elm Street. The areas will be closed until late March 2009.

• Edgewater Park is now closed from the west entrance off of Minnesota Highway 13 to east of the boat landing. The entrance to the park is still available from the east off of Lakeview Boulevard to access the Cottage and main pavilion.

If people have questions about the road closure, please call David Parenteau at Wenck Associates, (763) 479-4243.

Though looking at a map, that description doesn't quite make sense... You should still be able to take Itasca to East Trail / Elm St where the Stables used to be and bypass the closure.

Not sure why the article lists Richway being closed 500ft west to Elm... Should it be Itasca closed 500 W of Richway to Elm / E Trail?

There is no E. Trail. By passing through that neighborhood is a terrible idea. There are too many children that live there and the roads are to crowded for that to become a way through! Just go around by the old Wedge Nursery!

There are children everywhere... Its the responsibility of drivers to watch for kids, but more so a need for responsible parents to keep your kids OUT of the street.

I guess its up to the city / county to post a detour. I was offering a suggestion

My suggestion to tmfresh would be to buy a better map too. Or take that argument up with every mapping service and MnDOT.

I don't need a map! There is no E. Trail and those roads were not meant to carry heavy traffic. They aren't county highways!
