Albert Lea girls’ tennis finishes season

The Albert Lea girls’ tennis team traveled to Rochester for the Class 1AA individual Thursday tournament with five girls and did not advance from the quarterfinal round.

Kelli Hanson lost 6-1, 6-1 to Rochester Mayo’s Marika Pitot. The doubles team of Mikaela Pierson and Erika Blickenderfer lost 6-0, 6-0 to Annie Ryu and Emilie Renault of Mayo and Sophie Charlton and Jacqueline Cliby defeated Sarah Wenum and Alarie Maras 6-0, 6-0.

Taylor Nelson lost 4-6, 1-6 against Briee Mercier of Waseca.

Tigers head coach Sean Gillam said he was proud of how the girls played and the team had made a lot of progress throughout the season. Albert Lea finished 9-11 on the season as a team.
