Immigration group drives billboard through Twin Cities
Published Wednesday, September 3, 2008
The Minnesota Coalition for Immigration Reduction rented a 17-foot mobile billboard that is being driven down the streets of St. Paul and Minneapolis during the Republican National Convention.
The billboard reads: “Deport illegals, secure our borders, save America.”
The coalition started in Albert Lea but now has 31 chapters in Minnesota and one in Iowa. The largest chapter is in Owatonna. The organization opposes illegal immigration and seeks policies that don’t allow people to break laws to enter the United States. Its members have been known to make prejudicial comments on Hispanic people.
Minnesota Coalition for Immigration Reduction also is handing out literature on U.S. population growth, the environment and immigration. The group this summer in southern Minnesota had signs in many parades and flew banners over many big events such as fairs. It purchased a billboard for state political party conventions in Rochester in late May and early June.

I'd say that's a he!! of lot more sane then to protest by attacking police, delegates and smashing windows as seen on national and cable networks. It's simply called freedom of speech.
"“Deport illegals, secure our borders, save America.”" How much more patriotic can a organization get?
For all you liberals the word "illegals" means just that.

I am extremely liberal and understand the meaning of illegal. I don't think that anybody will be able to simply find a cure to the 12 million and GROWING illegal immigrant population. Instead, I believe our politicians and congress could work towards benefiting Americans by putting illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship that would force them to pay taxes (as the rest of us are SUPPOSED to do), contribute to Social Security and abide by the laws of our country. I think attempting to deport them could potentially waste millions of taxpayers dollars - and we all know how wasteful our country already is!

There will be no amnesty, or path to citizenship. That is a liberal dream that the American citizens will never allow to happen. All illegal's must leave or be deported!
If they want to apply to come here legally then they will gladly be accepted. But until they do come legally, they are not welcome and we will do everything in our power to see them ejected as the invaders that they are!

We need to quit wasting our tax dollars on supporting illegal imigrants, no matter where they came from. We, the American citizens, pay taxes and they reap the benefits. Whats wrong with this picture??? If you want to live in America, then come here LEGALLY!!!

The only way and I mean the only way to clean up the illegal mess is to elect more Republican, it's not going to happen with democrats in office. Legality is he only answer and I mean the only answer.

the_truth, no not really, just trying to instill a little bit of common sense into some of the liberals around this comment board. Nov 4th will be here soon, I don't want them to waste their vote.

A little history: "All colors and kinds of immigrants have historically been the subject of violent and bigoted campaigns, targeted by so-called Nativists who demand that their arrivals cease. These range from the Know Nothings whose main efforts focused on keeping out Irish and other Catholic immigrants, to the anti-German agitation that peaked in the 1870-1920 period, followed by the anti-Asian campaigns that flourished between 1880 and 1924. The latter were notable for the appearance, for the first time, of an effort not merely to prevent their arrival but to actively deport those already here, accompanied by the requisite eliminationist action, including violent massacres and concentration camps. The same impulse lives on today in the agitation against Latino immigration, which has proved to be a major bridge for extremists to expand their reach into the mainstream of American discourse." - David Neiwert

Let’s look at some facts concerning illegal immigration in this country. According to the American Federation for Immigration Reform (FAIR), 18% of illegal immigrants fall below the poverty compared to 11% of native born Americans, and they are twice as likely to try to obtain some form of taxpayer based assistance. Did you realized that between $11 billion and $22 billion dollars is spent by state governments annually to provide aid to immigrants? That’s our hard earned tax money NOT at work, at least for us. Approximately $2 billion a year is spent on WIC, food stamps, school lunches and the like. $2.5 billion is spent on Medicaid for illegals, while $17 billion is spent on “anchor babies”; that is, babies born in the States to mothers here illegally. Thus the child is automatically a US citizen, and “mom” gets to stay here, in large part at your expense, as the caretaker.

Virginian: I have common sense...and I'm an extreme liberal.
Obama in 08. Need I say more. Don't tell me the reasons he WON'T get into office - they are mere compared to the reasons he WILL be our next President.
My vote is NOT a waste...maybe you should try applying some of your own common sense in what you say and the views you portray!

I second the_truth's comment about foghorn leghorn. Someone may want to tell Virginian that repeating oneself only works in speaking, not in writing. Something to do with voice inflection, I guess. Funny stuff.

We've been invaded, folks. This is a war. Send all illegals back home. Repeal the anchor baby rule.
I don't care how much it costs, it's money well spent. Spend a few billion now or expect to pay TRILLIONS later.

I have been a conservative democrat all my life. I can remember a time when that meant you were a hard working middle class citizen that had a voice in politics through your local representatives. That has all changed. Over time, it has went south, way south. Now, all that anyone is interested in , is money and power. I dont care what side of the fence you are on-democrat or republican. They are just different labels on the same bottle of poison.
Allowing illegal immigration to continue is poison to this country. Once ingested, the poison doesnt care what part it destroys, it is just on a mission to destroy anything in its path.
If illegal immigration wasnt a problem in this country, then why are we discussing it in every media format there is? I'm quite sure its not because the majority support it.
We need a government that is serious about fixing our illegal immigration crisis. Right now, we dont have anyone to vote for that will really help the situation. As long as greedy politicians have there lobbyists pulling their strings and allowing these companies easy access to a cheap labor pool, it will never change.
I have served in the military for 25 years. When I signed up, I remember taking an oath to protect and serve my country and its CITIZENS with my life. I'm really having a hard time remembering the part where I said that I would protect those that were here illegally. Everytime that someone supports illegal immigration in any way, they are pissing all over the graves of the brave men and women that died serving this country. They did not serve to make this country worse, only better. I'm quite sure that most have rolled over in their graves as this country is losing its identity more and more each day. Its time we stop the maddness of giving our country away. A true American would not have any problem with any thing that I have said. If you do, then there is alot of real estate unoccupied south of the border that you may be interested in. I'm also willing to bet that anyone offended by my comments also never served in the military. If so, shame on you!

desertdog you are one of the very few democrats who would admit this, "I have been a conservative democrat all my life." The rest of your comment was very truthful and straight forward. I was a democrat at one time, something instilled in me by my MN parents. But when I moved from MN I realized that the word democrat meant something else than what I had learned when I was younger. I'm not saying I wouldn't vote for another Democratic nominee, but that person hasn't come along in a long time.
I'm sure McCain would appreciate your vote in Nov..

purduekelli, you said the following.
"I am extremely liberal and understand the meaning of illegal."
"Virginian: I have common sense...and I'm an extreme liberal."
purduekelli, you are the typical far left fanatical liberal who goes through life with blinders typical of what a horse might have on in a race so nothing diverts its attention and to stop dirt from getting in its eyes.
Nothing I say to you will ever change your mind about Obama, but a bit of advice for you, take off the blinders.
