Retired educators to meet Thursday

The Albert Lea Area Retired Educators of Minnesota will begin their 2008-09 year with fellowship at 11:30 and a noon lunch at the Albert Lea Elks Club on Thursday, Sept. 11.

All retired school personnel are invited to become members. If you are interested in joining or attending the meeting, call Sally Phillips at 373-8824. Reservations are needed. The menu will be chicken salad croissant with fruit.

The purpose of ALAREAM is to keep abreast of the actions of the Legislative Commission on pensions and retirement and the State Board of Investment as they relate to TRA and PERA.

The meetings cover various topics providing information to retirees in addition to socializing with former colleagues and making new friends.

Featured speaker will be Arnie Biedermann. He will talk about his childhood and school days in on an orphanage in Waverly, Iowa. Pat Mulso will also give an update on the museum and future needs of the country school on the grounds.

Other meetings this year are Nov. 13, March 12 and May 14.
