The Albert Lea boys’ cross country team finished 12th at the Faribault Invitational meet Friday with Ethan Marquardt leading the way once again.
Marquardt finished the event in 16:13.8 for fifth place overall.
“Ethan was running against at least three ranked runners and showed that he belonged in the elite class of runners in the state,” Tigers head coach Jim Haney said. “He ran the race we asked and he set himself up for a strong finish in the race. I’m proud of his efforts and all the things he’s done for the program.”
Steven Kreun finished in 52nd place with a time of 17:28 and Brian Reindl rounded out the top three with a time of 19:01.6. Joe daniles finished in 19:17.1, Evan Templeman at 19:44.4 and Torey Christensen at 20:50.3.
For the girls, Chrissy Monson had the best finish for Albert Lea, coming in sixth place with an overall time of 14:53.2. Alyssa Sager was second on the team with a time of 16:48.6, Abby Randall finished the event with at time of 17:33.2, Shelby Lageson turned in a time of 18:22.5, Annable Randall had a time of 19:17.9 and Tara Helgeson finished in 19:36.7. The girls finished 14th at the meet.
“The boys and the girls continued to improve as individuals as well as a team,” Haney said. “In a meet with some of the top teams and individual runners we held our own. I would have liked to placed higher as a team for both the boys and girls but we now have a starting point and a idea of what the competition will be like in the Big Nine and in the section.”
