Leo Aeikens concentrates on his next move while playing chess against Ken Joachim on Thursday at Thorne Crest Retirement Community in Albert Lea. Aeikens said he used to play chess frequently a long time ago but hasn’t lately until now. Jeshua Erickson and Kelly Callahan host the new chess club every Thursday at Thorne Crest from 6 to 8 p.m. There is no charge to join. Erickson and Callahan said people don’t have to come to play every week if they don’t want to, it’s more of a social chess atmosphere. They are open to teaching people who don’t know how to play and in the future would like to get involved with the schools.
