AgStar Fund for Rural America awards scholarships

AgStar Financial Services’ Fund for Rural America, a corporate-giving program, has awarded $20,000 in scholarships. These scholarships were awarded to high school seniors pursuing their education in agriculture or related fields this fall.

This year, the AgStar Fund increased the scholarship program to reach five more students, growing the total award amount to $20,000. The fund awarded 20, $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors throughout Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. More than 300 applications were reviewed and the recipients were chosen for their superior academic achievement, vocational promise, community service and leadership traits.

Local recipients were Tom Eilertson of Kiester and Hannah Demmer of Hartland.

Amanda Schroeder on Buena Vista dean’s list

An area student from Buena Vista University has been named to the dean’s list for terms five and six.

Amanda Schroeder of Albert Lea has been named to the list. Students named to the dean’s list must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 for the two terms.

Schroeder attends the Mason City Buena Vista University Professional and Online Studies location.

Matthew Bremseth awarded scholarship

Scholarships valued at more than $585,000 were awarded to 374 University of Wisconsin-Stout students this year through the Stout University Foundation Inc.

Matthew Bremseth of Alden, a golf enterprise management major, was warded an e-Scholar scholarship during a scholarship reception held on campus Sept. 11. Bremseth is a freshman.

Area students participate in Bethany production

Carl Gaudian, son of Bryce and Cynthia Gaudian of Hayward, and David Kelly, son of Dale and Nancy Kelly of Clarks Grove, participated in the “Theatre Physics” performances at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato.

Gaudian is a 2004 graduate of Albert Lea High School. Kelly is a 2006 graduate of Albert Lea High School.

Performance dates were Friday through Sunday.

Original material was written, directed, choreographed and performed by Bethany students under the direction of Peter Bloedel and Matthew Caron.
