Here are local and area highlights in history for Sept. 29, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1986 — St. John’s Lutheran Home was preparing to observe its 25th anniversary. This home was started by Rev. Melford Knutson of Albert Lea.
1976 — October was porkfest month at Albert Lea’s Boyd & Jack’s Supermarket. Wilson’s certi-select pork butt steaks and roasts were on sale for 79 cents a pound.
1966 — Robert W., Bruce, president of Albert Lea’s People’s Savings & Loan Association, was elected president of the Savings & Loan League of Minnesota.
