You Can Help

Published Saturday, April 18, 2009

These are some of the volunteer opportunities open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for other things, call Beth Spande, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Freeborn County Environmental Services: A variety of jobs are available for volunteers at hazardous waste collection sites: open paint cans, direct traffic, record names, help unload vehicles. There is something for every skill and ability. Notice the dates on the flyer sent out to every home and volunteer for the collection near you. We need helpers in Freeborn on April 29, in Conger on May 7, and in Albert Lea on May 16.

Albert Lea Family Y: The annual “Y”-Not Golf Tournament will be held on May 11. If you can help at one of the holes during the afternoon, please call.

Cancer Bike-A-Thon: The Freeborn County bike-a-thon will be Saturday, May 2. Help staff a check point to check in riders as they come by. Also serve food to riders. Various shifts are available. Consider riding or encourage others to ride.

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
