UP—To hometown basketball hero Ben Woodside.
Vive la France for hiring our high school legend and North Dakota State’s star to play basketball. Woodside will play for a team that represents Dunkirk and its suburbs along the northern coast of France. It is in the highest-level basketball league there, and it is assumed Woodside will start as point guard. The team’s first game is Oct. 3. We will be eager for the game’s outcome. The team’s name is BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque. Albert Leans are now fans of BCM basketball, which this year is celebrating 25 years of existence.
UP—To the volunteers who helped find a small boy near Glenville.
A 2-year-old boy took off on a child’s ATV and couldn’t be found by his mother. After 125 people hunted through houses, outbuildings, groves, waterways, fields, roads, ditches and railroad tracks, the boy finally was found near a field. It is easy to judge the mother, but even the best parents can lose track of their children. Just consider “America’s Most Wanted” host John Walsh, whose son was abducted from a Sears store. Let’s just be glad the 2-year-old boy is safe and sound.
DOWN—To failing to watch for bicycles.
A 16-year-old bike rider was struck Thursday afternoon by the driver of a car on North Bridge Avenue near Dairy Queen. She went over the car’s hood and into the windshield. We urge all motorists to watch for bicycles and motorcycles. Researchers can tell you people tend to notice what they are expecting to see, and if auto drivers are expecting to see two-wheeled vehicles, they are more likely to notice them.
UP—To everyone who participated in the Freeborn County Relay for Life.
Thank you for making a difference in the lives of many. Money raised from Relay for Life events across the country benefits the American Cancer Society. The money goes toward breakthrough cancer research and assisting cancer patience in numerous ways. Seeing the luminaries of the lost loved ones brings tears and yet makes everyone feel good they are remembered.

Good up and downs, sounds like Kate will be okay and thank God the little boy was found.
