You Can Help

Published Saturday, February 7, 2009

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for other things, call Beth Spande, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Grocery delivery: On the second Wednesday of every month, grocery boxes are delivered to senior apartment buildings in Albert Lea. A volunteer is needed at 8:45 a.m. to help unload the boxes and deliver them to apartments around Senior Court. Each box weighs around 20 pounds. The whole delivery process takes about 90 minutes.

Head Start: Read to or play with the children in this preschool setting. You could come regularly every week or just a time or two to read stories. Morning or afternoon times available.

Community Mentor Connection/STARS: Do you like writing and computers? Prepare and distribute a quarterly newsletter for the mentors, mentees, families and friends. Use your creativity!

RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, Corporation for National and Community Service, and Minnesota Board on Aging.
