Ice crystals form on J.B. Evans’ mustache as he shovels snow off the steps of the old Albert Lea Eye Clinic building on Tuesday morning. Evans said it would take him about two hours to clear all the snow from around this building. He had already cleared off about 8 to 10 other lots Tuesday morning.

J.B. Evans clears snow from the old Albert Lea Medical Center Eye Clinic building Tuesday morning. He did both this lower lot and the upper lot and the sidewalks and said when he finished it would have taken him about two hours. Evans had already done eight to 10 other lots Tuesday and this was his last one.

After one Alberta clipper dumped 4 inches of snow on Albert Lea Monday, a second one dumped about another 4 inches Tuesday night and early this morning.
It’s the bitter cold air temperatures that people are talking about, however. It got down to 20 below on Tuesday, but it didn’t break the record for Albert Lea: 29 below in 1916.
Blowing snow is the forecast for today. The National Weather Service calls for a north northwest wind of 20 and 22 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. The high will be 4 degrees below zero, with wind chill values between 28 and 34 below.
An Arctic air mass should move through the region tonight. A low of 23 below is forecast. The record for today is 27 below in 1979. A wind chill warning is in effect through Friday morning.
Wind chills were as low as 50 degrees below in northern Minnesota, including the cities of International Falls and Thief River Falls.
