New Richland Legion splits doubleheader with Blooming Prairie

It was one up and one down for the New Richland American Legion baseball team for the second time this week when it faced Blooming Prairie Thursday in New Richland.

Blooming Prairie scored an 18-11, six-inning win in the first game as it pounded out 15 hits.

New Richland tallied just seven with Matt Tomsche accounting for nearly half of them. Tomsche came up a home run shy of the cycle and finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs.

Post 75 had held an 11-9 lead entering the bottom of the sixth, but Blooming Prairie plated nine runs to pull out the win.

In the second game New Richland’s David Lassahn and Blooming Prairie’s Josh Toquam went head-to-head in a pitchers’ duel.

Lassahn got the best of Toquam, working six innings and allowing two runs on five hits. Toquam allowed five hits in six innings, but gave up three runs.

Colton Schlaak hit an RBI single in the first inning to help stake Post 75 to a 2-0 lead. Tom Wacholz added to the lead in the third inning when he hit an RBI single to make the game 3-0.

New Richland faces Hayfield Tuesday in a doubleheader in New Richland.
