A.L. man arrested for running over woman with cart

Published Tuesday, July 7, 2009

— An Albert Lea man was arrested for running over a woman with a golf cart on the Fourth of July.

The incident occurred Saturday night at the Beaver Trails Jellystone Park eight miles east of Austin in rural Mower County when the 63-year-old man accelerated wildly and knocked the woman, 61, from Island Lake, into a pond, pinning her under water. She broke her ankle and was taken to the hospital, according to a sheriff’s department report.

The man was intoxicated, according to the report, but an exact blood-alcohol content was not available Monday.

The man was cited, but formal charges are likely.

There was also an incident up north recently where a 31 year old intoxicated women backed up her vehicle over a tent and killed a 4 month old and injured the mother. I have been at campgrounds and had to leave because of all the intoxicated adults that are loud, obnoxious, try to sleep in the wrong tents, and don't watch thier children. Camping is supposed to be a family event. Maybe they should have adult only campgrounds for those that want to drink all night by the campfire.

I understand you can get a DWI anytime you are driving a vehicle with a motor - that would include a golf cart, lawn mower, etc.
