Cause of Sunday house fire in Hartland unknown

Published Wednesday, July 22, 2009

— Multiple fire departments responded to a house fire on the 500 block of Morin Street in this town on Sunday night. No one was injured.

According to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received a call of a fire at 509 Morin St., owned by John and Jamie Leibeg, at 11:05 p.m. Sunday.

When deputies arrived, they made sure that any residents were out of the home and also at one point evacuated the nearby neighbors, the release stated.

Flames could be seen coming out of the upper floor, said Freeborn County Chief Deputy Gene Arnold.

Firefighters from the Manchester, Hartland, Freeborn and Clarks Grove fire departments responded to put out the fire.

Though minimal exterior damage to the house was visible on Tuesday, all of the windows on the upper floor of the house appeared to have been broken out by the fire. Windows in the lower level remained. Curtains still hung in the those windows.

The news release stated Freeborn County American Red Cross personnel assisted the family, and the case is under investigation by the Albert Lea fire inspector.

The cause of the fire has not yet been announced.
