Anne Trebil graduates
Anne D. Trebil of Albert Lea was awarded her bachelor of arts degree in arts management, magna cum laude, during 2009 spring commencement ceremonies at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Jessica Henderson
Jessica Henderson receives John M. Morrison Scholarship
Jessica Henderson of Albert Lea is the recipient of a $1,500 John M. Morrison Scholarship. She is the daughter of Greg Henderson and the late Diane Henderson and a 2009 graduate of Albert Lea High School.
Henderson plans to attend St. Olaf College and major in mathematics education. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a valedictorian. She is a Sunday school teacher, Just For Kix dancer, Link Crew participant and in band. She enjoys reading, Rollerblading, camping with her family and watching movies with her friends.
The John M. Morrison scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding student who intends to enroll at an accredited four-year college or university. Seniors graduating from Albert Lea High School may apply to the program. The recipient of the scholarship is selected competitively on the basis of academic record and personal achievements. The scholarship program was established in 2001 in honor of John M. Morrison, who is the former chairman and chief executive officer and presently a director of Alliana Hospitals and Clinics. Morrison is a graduate of Albert Lea High School and the University of Minnesota.
Area students on Buena Vista dean’s list
Area students attending Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa, have been named to the dean’s list for the 2009 spring semester.
Included were:
Gregory Opseth, a senior from Alden, who earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Laura Kuennen, a senior from Northwood, Iowa.
Angela Sime, a junior from Northwood, who earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Travis Kuster, a junior from Wells, earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
To be included on the dean’s list, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better.
Kelli Meier graduates from Augustana College
Kelli Meier from Glenville received a bachelor of arts degree in religion and philosophy during Augustana College’s 149th commencement ceremony on May 24 at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Augustana announces local Heritage Scholarship recipients
Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., announced area recipients of the Heritage Scholarship. This award is based on the student’s academic record, essay and contributions in school, community and church activities.
The scholarships were presented to:
Joshua Joseph Dahle, from Lake Mills, Iowa, a senior at Lake Mills High School.
Britani Nichole Felten, from Albert Lea, a senior at Albert Lea High School.
Sophia Rae Hanson, from Albert Lea, a senior at Albert Lea High School.
Logan John Kortan, from Albert Lea, a senior at Albert Lea High School.
Kevin Brian Zogg, from Albert Lea, a senior at Albert Lea High School.
Bagley travels to The Netherlands for summer mission trip
Jennifer Bagley of Albert Lea is among 18 students from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, who will spend their summer participating in short-term mission experiences.
The students are members of the college’s Summer of Service (SOS) team. Each will spend at least six weeks in a cross-cultural setting, serving with Christian missionaries and mission agencies.
Bagley is serving in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, from May 24 to July 14 with Shelter Youth Hostel Ministry. She is assisting with the hostel’s daily operations and interacting with the guests. A senior nursing major, Bagley is the daughter of William and Lori Bagley.
SOS team members are assisting pastors, physicians and other missionaries in churches, hospitals, clinics, schools, orphanages and refugee camps. They are helping counsel youth, perform construction, plant churches, deliver community health programs and teach English as a second language. In addition to The Netherlands, students are traveling to Australia, Bolivia, Cameroon, England, Haiti, India, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Moldova, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Spain and Zimbabwe.
Area students graduate from SDSU
Students from the Albert Lea area were among those graduating from South Dakota State University in Brookings during spring commencement ceremonies May 9.
Ryan Craig Hajek of Glenville was awarded an associate of science degree in agriculture and biological sciences.
Jana Bethanie Ashling of Albert Lea, Tiffany Rae Politz of Emmons, Jacob Cherney Hansen of Glenville, Anthony Ryan Walk of Glenville, Michael John Eilertson of Kiester and Crysta Ranae Niebuhr of Wells were awarded bachelor of science degrees in agriculture and biological sciences.
Ellen Ann Hansen of Glenville was awarded a bachelor of science degree in arts and sciences.
Kyle Benjamin Chirpich was awarded a bachelor of science degree in engineering, cum laude.
Kristin Marie Wulff of Albert Lea, Tiffany Rae Politz of Emmons and Kelsey Jon Martinson of Glenville were awarded bachelor of science degrees in pharmacy.
Eric James Lynne of Hartland was awarded a master of science degree in graduate school.
Ashley Brandt receives degrees from La’James
Ashley Brandt has received her degrees in massage therapy and esthiology from La’James College in Mason City, Iowa.
Brandt received training in anatomy and physiology, massage theory and practice, specialized techniques, personal wellness, business practices, management and marketing, skin care, facials, skin treatments, body waxing, machine facials and spa treatments.
She plans to work in the Albert Lea area.
She is the daughter of Nancy Brandt of Albert Lea and Donald Brandt of Carlton.
Debra Kolling graduates from Rasmussen College
Debra Kolling of Albert Lea graduated from Rasmussen College in Mankato on March 22 with an accounting associate of applied science degree with an emphasis in financial accounting.
Kolling was also named to the honors list at Rasmussen. To be included, a student must earn a grade-point average of 4.0.
Danielle Cooper
Danielle Cooper receives DeKalb Award
Danielle Cooper, a senior at Glenville-Emmons High School, was recently presented the school’s highest agricultural honor, the DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored by Monsanto Co.
Cooper, the daughter of Phil and Nancy Cooper, received the award for excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience.
Cooper’s significant experiences and accomplishments have included president of the Glenville-Emmons FFA, recipient of the State FFA Degree and an active FFA member for the past four years.
Angie James is Cooper’s agricultural education instructor at G-E High School.
As the winner of the 2009 award, Cooper’s name will be recorded on a permanent plaque displayed at the school.
Nichol Sevcik graduates
Nichol Lynn Sevcik of Albert Lea received a bachelor of science in nursing through the adult and graduate studies program of Crown College in St. Bonifacius on May 9.
Sevcik and her husband, John, have four children: Jonathan, Evan, Madalynn and Isaiah.
She is employed as a registered nurse in the emergency department at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Kevin Zogg
Kevin Zogg receives Pro Musica Scholarship from Augustana College
Following an audition, Kevin Zogg of Albert Lea was awarded a Pro Musica Scholarship for voice from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. Augustana offers a full program in the performing and visual arts.
Zogg is a 2009 graduate of Albert Lea High School.
